Rebekah Sigfrids - A Feminine Touch
Auteur : Esther | 07-09-2011
Interior designer Rebekah Sigfrids designs some of the peaceful, relaxing spaces I have ever seen.

I would love to just curl up under this comforter with a good book!

Here’s more about Rebekah:
«I attended University of Cincinnati for Interior Design. After graduation I went to work for FRCH where I worked with a variety of specialty retail clients. A few years into my professional career I also began teaching an Interior Design course at University of Cincinnati that focussed on the development and presentation of work utilizing hand drawing.

In 2005 I opened my studio. The work was a balance of high-end residential design and retail design. During this time I also began teaching retail and hospitality design studios at UC.
In 2009 I put the studio on a hiatus and moved to New York. It was an opportunity to experience as much as possible: restaurants, bars, shops, shows, places of curiosity...

How would I describe my designs:
I would describe my designs as layered, livable and soulful. I believe that life and all its stuff should be able to happen in these spaces... friends should want to linger longer. While I have clear opinions on the aesthetic, I want spaces I design to above all evoke the personality of the owners and be a delight for them to be in.

My dream creative project:
There is an old Paint Company building in my neighborhood that I would love to renovate as residences on the top floors and a collaborative interdisciplinary working studio space on the main floor. (I am attaching a photo of the building just for fun.)

When I have a moment to myself:
I enjoy making a pot of tea, grabbing a stack off cookbooks off the bookshelf, curling up on the sofa, and reading recipes. The actual cooking part I enjoy doing with my guy. ;)

What i’m up to now...
New York was amazing, but there are exciting things happening in Cincinnati that I decided I wanted to be a part of. So, only just a month ago, I moved back to Cincinnati to reopen my studio and return to teaching at the University of Cincinnati. There is an area of downtown Cincinnati called Over the Rhine. It has the country’s largest collection of Italianate architecture-- absolutely beautiful buildings! The area had for a long time unfortunately been rapidly declining. However, with the persistence of many people who love this neighborhood, it is now seeing the country’s largest urban redevelopment. I am living in the area and on the search for a studio space here. I am currently developing the curriculum to teach a studio this summer that will have the students designing a museum space that examines the history of this area.

As for studio work...
I enjoy working on a wide range of projects including residential, retail and hospitality. I most enjoy sitting at my drawing board and doing concept drawings. I feel very fortunate to have been able to build a career that allows me to often be at the board. The sketches I do for my branded environments clients are often used for story telling only-- never making it to the point of realization. I am attaching a few pics of myself as well as some sketches and photos of my residential work... let me know what you think and if you need any more info.
