Dorte Agergaard, pure and simply brilliant!
Auteur : Esther | 10-02-2010

I love the soft, whimsical feel of these textiles designed by this talented Danish designer, Dorte Agergaard. Dorte designs textiles using digital prints of nature and cityscapes creating these extraordinary pillows.
The concept behind her collections is to capture motifs from one reality and place them in another environment, thus creating another reality. Images from untamed nature or an interior space are reproduced onto the textile with digital printing and become a series of patterns. The collection PURE is about “keeping it pure”. The design is both playful and serious.
Here’s more from Dorte Agergaard.

When did you know you wanted to become a textile designer?
After my undergraduate studies as a graphic designer from Central Saint Martins, I wanted to extend my field. I missed working with materials and with space/interior. Therefore I decided to take a master degree in textile design, where my passion became to work with digital printing on textiles. I do love working with - photography combined with textiles.
How would you describe your design style?
My style is clearly driven by what I feel like doing. I try not to focus on the commercial market and I don't believe in trends. I believe much more in developing a personal style, and a good energy. I do not wish to create the "perfect" design!
What fascinates me is not conformity or non-conformity, but that which is unique.
What is your greatest source of inspiration?
Life and our surroundings are often not "perfect" and this "view" is my inspiration. I renew myself and find inspiration by observing - I can easily sit in an "empty terminal" and get ideas.
I seek no sensations, but instead I celebrate the untamed nature or other "realistic" motifs.
What is the first thing you ever created?
As a child I loved to organize or redecorate my room - and I did it very often.
Do you have a favorite among all your creations, if so why is this your favorite?
I do like the collection_07/DAYS - the bedclothes. For me the process was very interesting because the patterns on the bedclothes comes from a documentary observation of how my bed looks in the morning - a design which reflects reality, but in a new context.
Total there is 7 bedclothe designs, which present a day from monday to sunday.
What is your dream home? Or what is your ideal living space?
I am in love with shigeru ban house called "the curtain wall house"

What do you like to do when you have a moment for yourself?
I enjoy just being able to provide space and let go all sorts of thoughts - release all worries and just rest in the moment.
What are your current projects?
My biggest project right now is to become better in business, without losing my heart.
